January 10, 2025 ☼ EV ☼ Polestar 2
Last week, we turned in our 2022 Polestar 2 Long Range, our first all-electric vehicle.
What an impressive three-year run we had. Let’s look at the tape:
The Good
We loved the car. It was a joy to drive, incredibly well-built, meticulously designed, and engineered. For us, it had just the right amount of technology and modernization: Great screens, and surprisingly, the built-in Google infotainment worked well.
The Not Great
That said, several factors led to our decision to part ways with our first EV, none of which had to do with the actual charging. Mainly, for our needs, the car was too small; my wife called it a ‘singles’ car given the spacing and the single (easily accessible) cupholder.
Couple that with the logistical annoyances of driving 2+ hours to reach the closest service center, and the decision was easy for us. We needed something more practical, with more room, which could be serviced at readily available mechanic shops (or at least local dealerships).
The Overall
Beyond that, the experiment was a success. We truly loved our time with the Polestar 2. We also can’t wait for our next EV, which will likely happen sometime in 2026.
Hopefully, by then, we’ll see repair and service be more readily available. We’re also excited by the newer model EVs having a lot more range. Even though range anxiety was something we dealt with exactly one time during our three years; I do think having a minimum of 300 miles to a charge will be a big gamechanger.
